In the "French watches" category, we have some very big names like LIP or Yéma (for the best known..). But do you know Mortima? AH! So I'm not the only one... in fact this brand is very little represented in the watchmaking passion and is therefore an interesting brand to integrate into a collection. Mortima is therefore an original and inexpensive brand! Anyway, let's get back to our second hands... this little Mortima is a Superdatomatic DeLuxe. When I got it, it hadn't run for at least 10 years. Powered by a Cattin C66 mechanical movement, it is certainly not the most prestigious caliber, nor the most precise or efficient, but it is a real "tractor" as I like to call it. Like the Massey Ferguson or other John Deere from another century, this mechanism, after 60 years is still there. It works! I mean it turns, finally it beats. This model came out of the Morteaux factories (yes, like the sausage) at the beginning of the 60s. My little sports car has suffered a bit from the scratches of time but for its age it is quite well preserved. Originally intended for diving, I admit that I have not tempted the devil, however due to its small measurements (36mm excluding crown) it can be worn very easily as a "dress-watch" if I may say so. It is not the most elegant but it has the audacity to attract the attention of enthusiasts. Here it is on a Casio bracelet (already mounted on the watch when I got it 4 or 5 years ago). Simple but effective. A detail that I like? The Mortima logo, the proud rooster representative of our beautiful country which also has a passion for watchmaking in its veins. Do you want to treat yourself without breaking the bank? Go for the Mortima, they come in several shapes and sizes. Maybe they will become collector's items to acquire in the near future.
