Admittedly, the title of this review is mocking, but Formex, a Swiss micro brand with a generic name, is not here to joke around. Their "Essence Leggera" model, which is the latest addition to my collection, includes components that we generally only find on much more expensive models. For 1650 euros, Formex delivers a chronometer movement and therefore COSC certified, embedded in a carbon fiber case that brings a remarkable lightness to the wearer. Although the diameter of the watch is announced at 41mm in the SPEC, the latter seems less big on the wrist (which is not to displease me).
For this model, Formex offers a variety of colors for this model. I opted for the "electric blue" which I find particularly sublime. Finally, I took the NATO strap that equips the basic watch. It is possible to opt for a leather, nylon or rubber strap but these alternatives will cost you 140 euros more.


No, it's not a condom brand.

This watch is simply the jewel in my little collector's crown. I had been eyeing the Hanhart 417 ES model for over a year. The watch was at the top of my shopping list. But when Hanhart put this Red x Blue limited edition on sale, I immediately got it into my head to acquire it as soon as possible. Which became a reality last April. 
This edition, limited to 140 pieces, has all the signatures of the Hanhart brand (some of which are not present in the base model): 39mm in diameter, red index at noon, blue dial and especially the iconic red pusher at four o'clock. In addition, mine is numbered with the "021", a number that recalls a legendary French playmaker from Juventus Turin. 
On the technical side, the watch has a Sellita hand-wound movement with 58 hours of power reserve. With this Red x edition, Hanhart does not do things by halves by delivering a second mechanical chrono, sporting the same blue color of the watch dial.
The only small flaw I can find in the watch is... one of the reasons that pushed me to buy it: its blue Alcantara-style strap which is certainly beautiful but easily collects dust. To keep it, I bought a second black leather strap with white stitching, accompanied by the iconic "Bunde" which gives you the look of a seasoned aviator.


Wear it like Steve McQueen

I wanted to buy an affordable Japanese automatic watch. Who better than Seiko to satisfy my desires. So, I visited their site and there, it was love at first sight, the second my eyes crossed the photo of the Seiko Presage Cocktail and its green dial, its case with a sober but elegant design, its brown leather strap and its golden second hand which adds an interesting contrast to the whole.
I've been wearing it for more than two years and I'm still as captivated by the beauty of the dial that makes you look down at your wrist all the time. Besides, among the watches I own, the Presage is the one that has been complimented the most, both by my entourage and by complete strangers.

Japanese quality at a reasonable price

For my first automatic watch, I wanted to go for a Swiss and affordable watch. The Tissot brand immediately came to mind and the Tissot Le Locle finally ticked all my boxes at the time: black dial, a perfect diameter (39mm) and a reasonable price (€470 at the time). The watch does not raise the crowds or attract attention, but that is exactly what I was looking for with this watch. Its major flaw in my opinion: its Roman numerals, of which I am not the biggest fan.

My first automatic watch

The Tissot brand was created in 1853 by Charles-F&eacute;licien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile in Le Locle in Switzerland. Since its creation, the brand has distinguished itself by offering a pocket watch indicating two time zones. As it developed, Tissot had to structure the house to focus on the export market and more particularly in Russia. Tissot is known for its innovation. She created the first antimagnetic watch in 1930 and the first automatic wristwatch displaying 24 time zones without manipulation in 1951.

A very beautiful watch, very light, very pleasant to wear with its large, easy-to-read dial and its comfortable power reserve.
The Tissot Le Locle automatic watch is named in honor of the birthplace of the Tissot brand.

- The 40mm Ivory dial is magnificent, it has a “clous de Paris” type guilloché in its center and smooth finishes around its perimeter,
- A thickness of 10 mm,
- Beautiful “leaf type” hands,
- Embeds a POWERMATIC 80.111 movement (the new generation of the ETA 2824-2) with a power reserve of 80H,
- Flat sapphire crystal,
- The case is made of 316L stainless steel with Yellow Gold PVD coating,

- The bracelet is 19mm, not very standard, 20mm would have been better,

Beautiful and efficient

How to describe the Tissot Le Locle powermatic 80 objectively…
Well, it's impossible for me, because I'm a fan of this watch for several reasons:

-The aesthetics => Black watch, black leather strap, black dial background, with its white hands and "Le Locle" written in beautiful period writing, everything is just sublime.
The back of the dial is just as sublime, with the detail of the screen printing and the transparency of the case.
I'm a fan of the sobriety of this watch and its elegance, it's beautiful and goes with everything.
You can wear it with a suit to go to the office, or with a simple t-shirt.

-Comfort => It's light, comfortable, it doesn't catch, and doesn't slip, in short, a real pleasure.

-Reliability => It is equipped with a sapphire crystal, a power reserve of 80 hours.

In short, the Tissot Le Locle Powermatic is a watch that is both reliable and elegant, and I totally recommend it.

May 2020 I celebrate my 25th birthday. 
What can I buy myself to mark this event? After many hours of reflection, the choice is made, it will be a "beautiful watch".
And there you have it, the virus is in me, I spend hours and hours reading articles and watching videos (from Dialicious of course).

But despite these hours of research, I still don't know which model to choose.

I go to the store with my money in my pocket and after two hours in this store in Aix en Provence, having tried on a dozen models, the choice is made, it will be a Le Locle.

How can you not fall under the spell of this watch?

A watch of incredible classicism, with beautiful textures, a gray-white dial, this decorated sapphire caseback and the Powermatic 80 movement which offers its 80 hours of power reserve.

Since that day, I have worn this watch at least ten days a month.

When someone asks me what first watch to buy I always say a Tissot!

In short, the Le Locle is an incredible watch that is terribly easy to wear!

The first automatic watch I bought

The Tissot Le Locle Powermatic 80 was my first automatic watch, my entry into the world of watchmaking 5 years ago. I was looking for an automatic watch from a recognized Swiss brand. It perfectly met my expectations. It is a very classy watch with its black dial with a "clous de Paris" finish and its Roman numerals. The well-crafted transparent back reveals the Powermatic 80 movement, derived from the classic ETA 2824.
This movement has animated the forums in recent years, with its supposedly plastic parts that divide enthusiasts and purists.
As far as I am concerned, I am perfectly satisfied with it. After several years of use, it is still as reliable and precise (2 seconds + per day). Nothing to do with the 6R35 of my Seiko :)
The sapphire crystal offers great security and allows you not to worry too much about your watch on a daily basis. Here again, Tissot is teaching Seiko and the hardlex of its presage range a lesson.
The metal bracelet is very comfortable and allows the watch to be forgotten.
The proportions are correct, with its diameter of 39.3 mm and its thickness of 10 mm. Well, to quibble I think that a diameter of 37 or 38 mm would have been sufficient for a dress watch, Tissot would benefit from following the current trend of down sizing.
In conclusion, I recommend this beautiful piece to anyone wishing to acquire an affordable, serious and timeless timepiece.

The serious and affordable dress watch

First watch for me. The price-quality ratio was really great when I bought it (€470.00 in December 2019) whereas now it is not necessarily interesting anymore, the prices at Tissot having increased.
Otherwise, although slightly thick in my opinion, the watch is really superb. A beautiful guilloché (clou de Paris?), beautiful hands and then this ETA 2824-2 with the PowerMatic80 is really a comfort.
