I was looking for a watch to mark an event, Grand Seiko was not on the "short list" but there you go, when I put it on my wrist, I said to myself: "this is it". There is always a subjective side to choosing a watch, specific to each person, then there is the objective side and when you look at it closely, this GS is wow! An incredible dial with a Mount Iwate motif, indexes, dauphine hands and a "multi-faceted" date window, a case shaped by the incredible Zaratsu polishing, a movement whose heart beats at 36,000 vibrations with a 55-hour power reserve, etc.
So why isn't it perfect? It's probably a little too "clean", "clinical", its bracelet has no fine adjustment (not very practical in summer) and finally no quick date adjustment and that's a pain!!
In conclusion, Grand Seiko is very serious, and I love it! Moreover, they have not increased their prices for several years, which is very very rare, isn't it...


This GS SBGJ201 is almost perfect...

I acquired this reverso (ref: 270.8.62) a few months ago, I had been dreaming of it for a long time, why? I like its sobriety, its timeless design which is different for me from the usual codes found in watchmaking. A real pleasure to wear, light, discreet and what class! In addition, these blue hands offer a very nice contrast with the white dial and therefore a beautiful readability. In short, I am won over and if there were to be only one left, maybe...

My reverso, absolute class!

I have had this watch for many years, it comes from my grandfather who I have always known with it. I "abandoned" it for more than 20 years in a drawer until the day I said to myself "it must be resurrected". 10 turns of the crown and there it goes again!! I removed its steel bracelet (you know the one that pulls out the hairs), mounted this slightly tired alligator removed from my reverso and now I enjoy from time to time this watch marked by its old age and the "un" reliable materials of the 50s-60s or 70s, to tell the truth, I can not date it, in short it is in its original condition ... You can see on the photos that the case subjected to the acidity of perspiration in particular has completely lost pieces of material. I love its dial with its aged tritium and its particular brand logo. Then, it reminds me of childhood memories and that is priceless! A concentrate of emotion ...

My antique Venus has a crazy charm!

I immediately fell in love with this "Bucherer bronze". I have always been attracted to this "living" material that becomes unique depending on how it is worn. I quickly immersed it in sea water. We are still on a bronze that does not develop a patina (the brand's intention). In addition, I noticed that this material does not mark too much (scratches and shocks), less than steel, which is nice for a "tool watch". On the other hand, be careful, we are on 43mm and the beast is imposing, thick too, especially on the Nato, to take into account if it catches your eye...


Tudor Bucherer "Bronzo"

An Icon? Without a doubt, it is to watches what the Porsche 911 is to cars, a legend. Some hate it because it's a Rolex, but how can you resist its sleek, simple, no-frills style: 3 hands, a black dial, indexes, a unidirectional bezel and that's it!
I've had this 114060 for almost 10 years and I've never gotten tired of it. It's precise, reliable, it can do almost anything, you can take it to the ends of the earth, it will always tell you the time.
Personally, I prefer the Sub to the Sub date, I find it more balanced, more sober, I also prefer it to the 5-digit models which are less qualitative for me, even if I like these tritium dials patinated by time.
It's just a shame that it has become a simple product of speculation for many...

The Submariner, a legend!

First of all, you have to earn it! It earned me a return trip to London on a Saturday in February, but admit it, there are worse... We are familiar with the Black Bay from Tudor, a watch that for me put the brand back on the watchmaking scene. This B.B ticks a lot of boxes and in this livery with a green "Harrods" bezel and "gilt" dial that gives it all its charm, it is irresistible! A movement with a precision worthy of a Rolex, robust and reliable. The only flaw I find? A slightly imposing size, 41mm and a certain thickness especially with the Nato. For me, it would have been perfect in 39mm. But it remains a small detail that is quickly forgotten when you have it on your wrist...

My TUDOR Black Bay Harrods has everything a...great one needs

This Yema allowed me to add a "little French girl" to my collection, yes! a bit of chauvinism. We no longer present the Superman, its legendary bezel lock (I'm not a diver, but not sure that it's very practical...). This limited series launched on Kickstarter offered the possibility of buying it at a "reasonable" price, moreover, it combines many assets: new Yema 3000 movement, water-resistant to 300m, GMT complication, date. In short, the ultimate travel tool watch with the added charm of bronze and its unique patina. I chose the 39mm model (you could buy it in 41) and I don't regret it for 2 reasons: Identical to the original Superman and it fits all wrists, including mine (17cm).

Love at first sight when it came out in 2012! I had to wait 2 years before I could buy it, but I have no regrets because it marked a major event: the birth of my son! He and she are exactly 15 days apart and it is meant for him! 
Despite all the iterations released since around the Black Bay model, it has something unique: the rose and the smile!

Tudor Black Bay 79220

Having a first generation black Black Bay, I was going to buy a GMT. When I got to my AD, I took the opportunity to try out the new features and there it was love at first sight for this new iteration of the Black Bay.
It's the same watch but better. The proportions have been reworked. Thinner case, reduced lug width, slightly smaller dial, new crown. Everything is more harmonious. I opted for the 5 link bracelet which is super comfortable. The T-fit system of the clasp allows you to adjust the size of the bracelet in a few seconds. We are very close to Rolex. Compared to the oyster bracelet, the watch is much more dressy and less unnoticed. To top it all off, the movement is Metas certified and therefore, devilishly precise.
A major evolution of the design that restores the appeal of the original Black Bay line.

Even better

For a while now, I had been thinking about the idea of a second-hand Tudor, and I didn't mind the prospect. But when I looked at the models offered by the brand, the 79220R seemed obvious to me. It is the quintessence of Tudor. With its avant-garde design, vintage logo and unique colors, this watch breathed new life into the brand that was then in decline. Equipped with the ETA 2824-2 movement, it was the only Black Bay to benefit from it, the manufacturer switching to "in-house" movements a few years later. This criterion particularly appealed to me. Not because I am a fervent fan of the 2824, although its performance speaks for itself, but because this watch marks the beginning of a new era in the watchmaking world. At a time when every manufacturer is loudly proclaiming its skills in developing movements entirely "in-house", the fact that Tudor (aka Rolex) has taken - or not - the "risk" (or rather the audacity?) of relaunching its production thanks to an ETA delights me to the highest degree. There is no doubt that this watch will soon be among the most sought-after in my collection.

Tudor's 79220 R: the beginning of a myth

What a beautiful watch this Black Bay Bordeaux bezel. I think that Tudor is doing very well by offering quality watches at "reasonable" prices compared to the competition. Diameter 41, water-resistant 200m, manufacture caliber 70h power reserve, jubilee bracelet ... uh ... I meant 5 T-fit links. I can't find any fault with this watch, it's flawless. You have to go to the store to really appreciate the details: the black dial that looks like chocolate, the beautiful off-white color of the indexes and hands as well as their golden contours. The 3D reflections of the bracelet. The beautiful burgundy of the bezel. I can't find any fault with this watch. It is also very comfortable to wear.

A real favorite

I have owned this watch for 7 years and have worn it almost daily since I bought it. First generation Black Bay with rose logo and the text "smilley". It is a tank dressed in evening wear. The modified ETA movement is reliable and precise. The guilte typography with the black bezel as well as the gold hands and indexes give it a vintage look that I love. Of course, it is a little thick, but that is not a disadvantage. It is discreet and goes in all situations (office, evening, casual, at the beach, at the pool, etc.). If you only have one watch, it should be on the short list.

The one who paved the way

My Tudor Black Bay 41 is mounted on an original NATO strap that seems fragile at first glance but turns out to be solid in use. Its readability and lack of date were part of my purchase choice. The only downside for me is its battery life. Which for a watch of this price is less good than other more expensive models.
