
This is my very first "high-end" watch. In any case, Oris was already known as a serious manufacturer with a fairly diversified collection and an excellent quality/price ratio. It has therefore been with me for 12 years with only one revision on the counter. Very reliable and precise movement. Its originality already comes from the case which at the time had been rewarded. A shape that we can see little and to this is added the famous "pointer day" hand highlighting the day in red. A window at 3 o'clock showing 3 dates is provided with an arrow pointing to today's date. It is therefore a beautiful watch, quite dressed in steel bracelet (a little heavy however ...) and with a real originality in the design and its complication. Very endearing, it is robust and will follow you everywhere at all times. 


The perfect watch to start your collection

After reading the completely crazy story of the Zenith manufacture, I couldn't resist getting one of their timepieces, and not just any! This model is the El primero chronomaster full open grande date (*breathe*) which houses the iconic "El primero" movement beating at 36,000 vph since its creation in 1969. A large, thick watch that manages to be forgotten on the wrist as it is so elegant. Its moon phase combined with a day/night cycle adds to its already present charm. It does not leave you indifferent and you never tire of seeing its anchor and silicon escapement moving at such speed. A favorite for a watch that I only discovered late. When you read the history of Zenith and discover everything the manufacturer has been through since 1865, you feel lucky to have on your wrist the legacy of the know-how and determination of the men and women who have carried this brand to this day.

A first "El primero"

The Zenith brand was created in 1865 by Georges Favre-Jacot in Le Locle, Switzerland. A pioneer in Swiss watchmaking in the creation of a true vertically integrated manufacture, Zenith aimed to create the most precise watch of its time at the best price. Over the years, it has established itself as a benchmark for precision and expertise in many fields.
In 1899, the marque Zenith presents its first pocket chronograph and wins various prizes, including first prize at the Paris Motor Show. In 1911 Georges Favre-Jacot handed over management of the factory to his descendants, who named it Zenith, the name of the highest point in the trajectory of a star in the sky.
In 1920, Zenith launched its first wristwatches and continued its development until, in 1960, it purchased the Martel Watch Co. After numerous buyouts, the company that owns the Zenith factory decides to stop the production of mechanical watches in favor of quartz. In order to save these calibers from destruction, Charles Vermot hid cams, cutting tools, presses and machines, while recording the production process in a small notebook, secretly hoping for the return of mechanical movements. It was only nine years later that Zenith returned to the hands of Swiss investors who revived the brand's mechanical movements such as the El Primero.
