I had been interested in luxury watches for a few years now, but more from a design point of view than from a technical characteristics point of view. When I tried this Breitling Superocean Heritage II B20 42mm, I literally fell under its spell.

At the time (about 5 years ago now), it was really the aesthetic crush that played a role and I didn't care about the rest at all. Diver purists will tell me that it is only water resistant to 200m, that there is no luminova on the indexes or the second hand, and that the movement is called manufacture when it is a Tudor. In short, arguments that left me neither hot nor cold.

This watch is a real Breitling that is part of the brand's tradition of robustness. It's a pretty baby with its 42mm, its 173g and its thickness of 14.3mm and I love its statutory side. 

However, it marked the renewal of the brand because even if it is virile, the details are no less very worked and elegant. Because who says virile does not necessarily mean coarse, which I previously criticized Breitlings which for me were exhibitionist parvenu watches :-). 

We see right away that it is a beautiful piece that shines with 1000 lights with its polished case, its yellow gold "B", its ceramic bezel, its polished indexes and especially its Milanese bracelet. Let's talk about the bracelet, it is incredible. The Milanese are always ultra thin, and well here it is a good 3/4mm thick, a sacred beast very robust but which fits well on my 17.5cm wrist. 

Over time and having worn it in all circumstances (it was my only watch for 5 years), it adapts to everything. As well in shorts at the beach as with a suit. I have often been complimented on it, it is a watch that stands out for those interested in watches.

Despite the fact that it is entirely polished, it is ultimately not very prone to scratches. The ceramic protects the bezel well and the sides of my case and the lugs have been well preserved. Only the buckle has suffered a lot, but we know that it is impossible not to scratch a polished buckle.

How I loved this watch... Today, I am lucky to have others and I logically devote less time to it. It must also be said that since its acquisition I have gone from amateur to enthusiast. So it's true that now the little inconsistencies that I didn't care about at the beginning bother me a little more, but for the moment I'm not ready to part with it.

And for those who are wondering, you can go for it. Honestly, what watch is that great for €5,450 in 2024? I think it's a model that has suffered one of the lowest inflation rates in recent years, I bought it for €4,700 in 2019. At the time, I hesitated with a Speed that was at €4,800, I didn't have any flair for investment! But it doesn't matter, it's the heart that spoke.
