First automatic watch in my collection. While I was thinking about what would become my first automatic watch, eyeing Tissot, Orient, LIP and other Laco, I immediately fell for this MIDO Ocean Star Décompression Timer 1961. A reissue and modern reinterpretation of a diving watch from 1961 - the year my mother was born and a good excuse to double the budget initially planned - it won me over even though, a priori, one would not think of it as a first watch. Absolutely not consensual with its rainbow dial and colored bezel, that's what makes it so charming. A watch that is unlike any other, immediately recognizable and produced in a limited series. Its reduced format for a 40.5mm diver, its short lugs, and its 80-hour power reserve movement with an accuracy of +1sec/day, make it a very pleasant watch to wear on the beach as well as in the office.
