Slide time, pass the wave

4.7

I hadn't worn a Casio for a long time, but this G-shock with its hexagonal metal bezel caught my attention. It's not a consensual G-shock, not at all, but it has undeniable assets. First of all, it's extremely readable, the negative screen is quite large, you can vary the amount of information displayed to have the time more or less large. And above all, the contrast is very high, there is always an angle under which even in low light, the additional light is useless even if you just have to press the front button to trigger it. The time is really very readable. Then, it's the color of the prominent bracelet that fascinates me, I can't define it, it's a mixture of light blue and gray, something at the same time joyful, wild, cold and energetic. It intrigues me and I still don't know why I like it. This color reminds me of a painting by Pierre Bonnard, an impression of a comfortable atmosphere, a bright house open to nature, the passage from interior intimacy to the wild immensity of the sea under the blinding light of the sun. It is a watch from the G-shock Glide series designed for board sports and as such it displays lunar and solar information, sunrise and sunset, tide time and height. Above all, the screen displays a graph that allows you to see exactly where you are on the tide profile. That's really good because in practice I always lose my tide calendar and a graph is always faster to read than low and high sea times and a tide coefficient. Afterwards, the other features, including the stopwatch, seem very poorly designed with this stupid screen that displays "activity data? -continue - save -delete" then the interminable "please wait". Even in the twentieth century, watches didn't have such annoying menus for their users and "please wait" screens that take ages. It's surreal. Also, the Bluetooth connection is not the most practical, nor very useful (at least for me). But it doesn't bother me too much, there is a lot of information on the basic screens and it's not really necessary to use the stopwatch and all the advanced functions. The soundtrack to accompany such a watch would in my opinion be the L.A. band Weezer with "Surf Wax America", the energy and youth seem to go perfectly with this surfer's watch (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tG9CjNEjBuQ ) or a band from the French West Coast like "La Femme" ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3rMJ6BOMRA ). Adjective: energetic, sporty, readable, oceanic, aquatic, cosmic, solar, maritime, slow, hexagonal

A First Smashing Step into the G-SHOCK World

5.0

Finally, a G-SHOCK in my collection and what a smashing entrance!! I never thought it would take me so long to welcome a G-SHOCK into my collection. And what an entrance! This GM-S5600YS-1 is not just a watch, it is a tribute to aesthetics and resistance. This black beauty, the fruit of the collaboration between G-SHOCK and Y's, Yohji Yamamoto's first brand, perfectly embodies my passion for Japanese watchmaking and fashion. An Elegant and Rebellious Collaboration, launched on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Y's brand. This watch is a fusion of the DNA of the two worlds, the legendary robustness of G-SHOCK and the dark and thoughtful elegance of Yohji Yamamoto. Its all-black design is a masterpiece of sobriety, magnified by polished and brushed metal details. Let's start with the top of the bezel which is brushed, robust and discreet. Then these mirror buttons, which subtly capture the light, then the Y's logo engraved on the top of the dial and the case back, a discreet reminder of the brand's logo. Yohji Yamamoto has always explored the contrast between darkness and refinement, and this watch is a perfect embodiment of it. A Double Personality, with two straps for two styles. The first strap in classic black resin, a G-SHOCK staple, is smooth, light and comfortable. It is perfect for everyday use and goes just as well with casual outfits as with a more formal style. The second strap in canvas with velcro is resolutely fashion and urban oriented, this strap is a real statement of originality and I think unique at G-SHOCK. Equipped with a cover to protect the dial - a delicious irony for a watch as robust as a G-SHOCK - it evokes Yamamoto's utilitarian and avant-garde creations. Perfect for going out, doing a skate session, or sporting an original and resolutely fashionable look. The woven label with the model number, the signature of Y's clothing, adds a touch of authenticity and refinement. This bracelet is a perfect illustration of Yohji Yamamoto's visionary approach, both functional and artistic. A Watch, A Philosophy... Beyond the object, the GM-S5600YS-1 embodies a philosophy, that of creating a unique and timeless piece, going beyond ephemeral trends. This watch fits perfectly into Y's vision, objects that are both functional and elegant, designed to last. After a few days on my wrist, I know that it will be an essential piece in my collection. It goes perfectly with my chic and urban style. For fans of Japanese watchmaking and fashion, it is a must-have. This first G-SHOCK marks a new step in my watchmaking adventure and brilliantly affirms my love for avant-garde design and timeless Japanese craftsmanship.
