A GMT armed for adventure!

4.8

As a GMT and "tool" watch enthusiast, I was initially going for an Explorer II, and I was also able to try the 226570 at the same time as the Black Bay Pro (BB Pro)! Despite the availability of the Rolex, I only had eyes for the crown keeper. I appreciate this BB Pro first and foremost for its bezel, whose satin finish is very beautifully crafted. This bezel highlights a matte dial that oscillates between anthracite gray and black. It highlights studs made of a kind of ceramic and well-integrated snowflake hands. Obviously, the orange-yellow GMT hand energizes the design without overdoing it. The cream shade of the studs and hands brings a slightly vintage touch. Visibility is excellent during the day and the luminova is super powerful. Everything is enhanced by a domed sapphire crystal that gives beautiful distortions. The bracelet would have been more elegant without its rivets, but it is very comfortable! The "on the fly" adjustment system of the clasp of this BB pro is amazingly simple and effective. Besides, I like to change my strap regularly, I never considered it for this BB Pro. It is not a thin watch, I grant you, but when worn it is not shocking, especially thanks to harmonious proportions, a contained diameter of 39mm and an oversized signed crown; finally a mirror polish on the edge and fine chamfers finish off lightening the whole. She is an adventurer, she likes military shirts with rolled up sleeves; rest assured, a simple swimsuit is enough for her because she also enjoys swimming with its 200m water resistance. The "true GMT" caliber MT5652 (COSC) is very precise and easy to use. Ultimately, this BB pro is an efficient and comfortable watch that makes me smile every time I see that GMT hand set to the time zone of a city where I've had so many great times.

The student has surpassed the master

Recent acquisition of a brand that I particularly like for its adequacy between the quality offered and what, in my eyes, constitutes the fair price to pay for a high-quality watch in full steel. Since it freed itself from the overly oppressive tutelage of its big sister from 2017 and the arrival of manufactured calibers, Tudor has never ceased to impress me. Everything seems measured, calculated, taken into consideration to please a majority. Almost all of the watches are aesthetically successful, mechanically accomplished and historically consistent with its lineage. This reference was purchased before Christmas second-hand at an unbeatable price. It is new from stock as of July 2024, which means that its condition is perfect. For the rest, the description I made on my little eponymous IG page to my nickname here: 🚨N.W.A🚨 Tudor Black Bay Ref M7941A1A0RU-0003 Play it like Beckham. ⭕️41MM steel case with polished and satin finish, unidirectional steel bezel with burgundy/red aluminum insert; 60min graduation. ⚫️Black dial slightly sunrayed and domed with railroad minute track on the periphery and ivory-colored applied indexes with copper-look rim. 🪡 3 hands called Snowflake, Tudor signature since 1969 with blue SuperLuminova luminescent material. (Green being for Rolex) ⛓️Steel bracelet with 5 polished and satin-finished oval links equipped with a T-Fit clasp quickly adjustable to 5 positions and 8mm. Folding clasp with safety latch with the Tudor shield logo and featuring a ceramic ball system that is very nice to handle. 🚜Tudor manufactured automatic caliber with silicon spiral and independent METAS certification called "Master Chronometer", the highest possible. This certification meets 5 criteria: 1/ Swiss Made criterion of excellence 2/Precision: The watch must be at least certified by the COSC (-4/+6 sec of tolerated drift per day). The METAS increases this variance to +0/+5sec or 2 times less. (Knowing that Tudor still imposes a -2/+4 for its in-house calibers) 3/Resistance to magnetic fields up to 15k Gauss for operation in all circumstances. 4/Waterproofness: Compliance with the ISO 22810:2010 standard here 200m (the minimum). The watch is therefore a so-called diving watch 🤿. 5/ Autonomy: 70 hours of power reserve. 👑: Crown (not protected) winding mechanism signed with the Tudor rose, plated on the band of the case. This Black Bay 2023, whose line was launched in 2012, is the 3rd reinterpretation of the historic @tudorwatch Submariner diving watches from the 50's. It condenses all the know-how of a house that since 2017 has truly freed itself from its big sister Rolex by offering robust watches, with indisputable qualitative finishes and exceptional reliability.

Big P.A.N.D.A

4.4

Having truly fallen under the spell of time in 2021, I was looking to acquire my second timepiece from a major watch manufacturer 1 and a half years later. However, after watching many videos of Xavier, after reading an infinite number of articles and specialist magazines, I still couldn't make up my mind... One fine day (or was it a night?), I went to a shop well known to the people of Lyon for its second-hand watches to just "look and try" without any definite intention to buy and luck would have it that I found myself next to this beauty in the same place, at the same time. From the window, my attention was caught. It must be said that it is imposing with its 41mm case that the 2 push buttons and the imposing flat crown with a rose logo make even more imposing. The watch is "heavy" which goes hand in hand with the impression of solidity that it gives off. Comfortable to wear on the wrist, mesmerizing visual: The black-opal mix is really successful and the absence of a third under-counter alongside the small seconds and the timer avoids weighing down the dial too much. "Oyster" bracelet with classic folding clasp and closure forming the "Tudor Shield". Nice. The aluminum tachymeter bezel and silver indications are outdated but undeniably make the charm of the watch. The stopwatch is, in 2023, a gadget but remains an essential watchmaking complication! Be careful to screw the buttons back in after use otherwise bye-bye to the water resistance (200 meters)! (We learn this with experience -_-) COSC certification for remarkable and noted precision as much as the domed sapphire crystal. The watch is difficult to find in AD which confirms that Tudor has been moving upmarket for a few years and is now only the "little sister of Rolex". #waitinglist. It can therefore be an interesting investment (its value on the grey market tends to be higher than in stores) On the downsides, the case back is solid and poorly worked. No aesthetic interest. The luminova is not the brightest and fades quickly and the chronograph second hand is not coated with it so that the functionality is of no use at night or in the dark. Noted. Date window at 6 o'clock without a magnifying glass. Too bad. The whole thing is still very good, however; try it and you'll love it! Nb: its sporty look suits all types of styles or outfits but its size requires a certain wrist size.

A very successful titanium, COSC and METAS GMT adventurer

4.6

Arriving at the end of 2024 in the Pelagos family, a great success in my opinion. Aesthetically, I find it to have very beautiful proportions. The colors are perfectly matched between the very beautiful matte black of the bezel and the dial, and the vintage-style cream indexes. An incredible super luminova, blue indexes and hands, green bezel indications. You can read the time without problem until the end of the night. Grade 2 titanium for the case, grade 5 for the back. Back engraved M.N. followed by the last two digits of the vintage. The strap is in military green fabric, with a removable naval aviation badge for those who would like a little more discretion. It's hard to say how it will withstand use, but it looks very sturdy, and at the same time very thin, so the watch does not take up too much thickness on the wrist, unlike many classic NATO straps. The orange GMT hand looks great on the matte black and green, complementary colors. I tried to wear it on an orange Nato, and it looks pretty good, even if I prefer the original strap. Beautiful titanium Tudor buckle. The lug width is 22 mm, the lugs are short, which means that the watch can be worn by small wrists, despite its 42mm diameter Despite the GMT complication, the thickness remains very contained, thinner I think than its little sister FXD M.N of the MN combat swimmers, and much thinner than the Black Bay Pro, another GMT of the brand (see photos). In short, beautiful work, very pleasant and light to wear. The date window at 3 o'clock is not annoying, because of its contained size, identical to the size of the indexes, and very readable with its cream color on the black background of the watch. Metas and COSC certified 70 hours of power reserve Between the GMT hand and the 24-hour graduated bezel, we actually have two time zones (for those who really travel a lot...) A great success, for less than half the price of a GMT II from the cousin with the crown

Pelagos FXD GMT "Zulu Time"

4.1

A year with Tudor: from the Black Bay Heritage to the Pelagos FXD GMT "Zulu Time" A year ago, I purchased my first Tudor Black Bay Heritage, a watch that marked my debut in the brand's fascinating world. Today, I am renewing my commitment to Tudor by adopting the new Tudor Pelagos FXD GMT "Zulu Time", the result of a prestigious collaboration with the French Navy. From the moment it was launched, it caught my attention: its khaki strap adorned with the navy's coat of arms, its matte black dial enhanced with a touch of orange on the "Pelagos GMT" inscription, its luminescent crown and indexes... And, of course, its new GMT movement. This watch seemed to have everything it needed to seduce me. A first impression: surprising lightness As soon as I put it on my wrist, one detail immediately struck me: its lightness. This was my first time trying on a watch made entirely of titanium, and the combination with a NATO strap only accentuated this airy feeling. The Pelagos FXD is so light that you almost forget you’re wearing it, a feature that I found particularly pleasant. The strap: a dark spot in a bright picture Unfortunately, the NATO strap, although iconic, disappointed me somewhat. At this price point, I expected a strap of superior quality. This one, although aesthetically successful, is much too thin for my taste, to the point of making the passage through the buckle delicate. This detail, which could have been easily improved, slightly tarnishes the overall experience. A slightly thicker material would certainly have provided more comfort and robustness. A timepiece that lives up to expectations Aside from this downside, the Tudor Pelagos FXD GMT “Zulu Time” remains a remarkable watch. It has everything it takes to become one of those pieces that continue to surprise and amaze every time you wear them. Its bold design, military DNA and high-performance movement make it a perfect ally for fans of sports and technical watches. I hope that this sharing of experience has allowed you to better discover this new creation and that it will enlighten those who are still hesitant to take the plunge. Tudor continues to prove that it is a brand that knows how to combine innovation and watchmaking refinement.
