I was immediately captivated by this family watch, a vintage rounded rectangular Yema, gold-plated but with a steel case back. This watch has a history, and that's what makes it so beautiful... Not only because it comes from the family, but especially because it was serviced by one of the greatest watchmakers in Cairo, who has had his shop passed down from great-grandfather to son since 1903.... A fascinating watchmaker, who also showed me a magnificent Baume et Mercier chronograph engraved in full gold in Arabic on the case back in honor of a high-ranking officer from the time of the great Nasser... It was this Yema, bequeathed by my uncle, that got me into watchmaking. The beauty of a timepiece, its history, its precision mechanics are worth more to me than the precision of an atomic clock!
