In the 2000s, Tissot had released the T-touch range which was fashionable. Then a few years later, the Sea Touch arrived. We saw it in all the advertisements. Being a diver, I rushed to acquire it. Indeed, it has a depth gauge, gives the ascent speed. Perfect to support my dive computer. In addition, it has a 2nd time zone, stopwatch, thermometer and compass. It has everything to please. It accompanies me to the 4 corners of the globe and in all the seas. Even after 15 years, it is my faithful companion for my holidays. To this day, it is far from being outdated and works like the first day.

The diving watch and more

I had the opportunity to acquire this watch in 2010. It was named "fusion of materials". Indeed, these materials are: ceramic, carbon fiber, steel and rubber which characterizes this watch. It is recognizable from very far away even for those who know little about watchmaking. It is very pleasant to wear despite its large size. The complications that characterize this watch are the date and the chrono. I like to look at it and it has a timeless look. I am won over!

The Big Bang that merges with matter

Until now, I had never had a Japanese watch. I came across this "Fujisubo" model by chance and I found that it had a beautiful story. Indeed, it is a reinterpretation of a watch that had been found in 1983 on a beach in Australia that was covered in small crustaceans and that was still working. This new version is even more interesting because it is made of titanium. I think it was Citizen who launched titanium on their watches. It is therefore very light and Citizen powered it with their caliber 9051 which is a good caliber. Unfortunately for me, I had bought it on the web and had not tried it before. Personally, I find that it does not fit my wrist. The result is therefore mixed. It is magnificent, light and its movement is very correct. I keep it and wear it from time to time to remind myself that it is essential to try before buying it.

Citizen Promaster "Fujitsubo"

Since 2023, I have had a buying fever. I stumbled upon the Alpina website and my eyes were hooked on this model. It has several complications that you don't see often! Chronograph with big date including a sub-dial that measures the tenth of a second. The movement is certainly in Quartz and it is very precise. The dial is very readable, worthy of an aviator's watch. For the finishes that this watch offers, it is really not worth its price. The details are truly incredible. I think that Alpina is really an underrated brand and has nothing to be ashamed of compared to the big Swiss brands.

Alpina Big date Chronograph 

In 2009, I wanted to buy an exceptional watch. So I went to IWC and wanted to acquire the Top Gun. The customer service was incredible and let me try several models. Finally, I came out with the Big Ingenieur with its impressive 7-day power reserve. In addition, its Pellaton manufacture movement was a real plus. It is very technical with its polished sapphire, you have the impression that there is no glass. It is imposing but it remains discreet. Why discreet? Because compared to Rolex or others, few people know this brand. This is a brand for connoisseurs. It is my favorite brand. I have owned it for all the years that I have had it, it is the one I wear the most. My watches that I own must be worn. It is in no way for investment. I will have to bring it back at the start of the school year to give it a major overhaul.

Imposing but discreet

I discovered it on an online site. I had already heard of this brand. I immediately fell for its flashy look and its bidirectional internal bezel. In addition, with a window on its heart was a plus. I love the dial and when the second hand turns, we see its shadow follow the hand. There is a feeling of internal volume that I love. Its water resistance to 300m is not left out. Despite a Myota movement, it is very precise. After a week, it lost less than 15 seconds. In short, I am totally a fan.

Original and very clear

I came across some articles this summer and I was immediately won over and decided to pre-order it. I only received it on December 24th. Its dial is beautiful as well as the finishes are exemplary. I love its retro and vintage look and its hybrid mechanism does not bother me at all. On the other hand, the only downside is that it is clearly too small and for a tool watch, it is clearly unusable. Let me explain, the tachometer markings are barely visible and really too small. Even if it remains a gadget, it should be usable. The watch case should have been larger so that it could be used. When I look at it and wear it, it looks like a watch for a 12-year-old. I think that watches are like clothes, you have to try them on before you buy. I have never worn it and I am going to part with it.

Beautiful but disappointed

The brand Nivada Grenchen was created in 1926 by Otto Wullimann, Hermann Schlindler and Jacob Schneider in Grenchen (Granges) in Switzerland with the ambition of offering reliable and precise watches at an affordable price. From 1939, it expanded in the United States thanks to a commercial agreement with the Croton Watch Company, based in New York, which imported watches under the Croton Nivada or simply Croton brands.
In 1950, she designed the Nivada Grenchen Antarctic, its first waterproof automatic watch which will be worn by members of the American navy during the Deep Freeze 1 expedition to the South Pole at the end of the 1950s. In 1965, it launched the Nivada Depthmaster waterproof to 1000 meters, before being severely impacted a few years later by the quartz crisis.
The brand Nivada Grenchen was taken over in 2018 by two collectors - R&eacute;mi Chabrat and Guillaume Laidet - who are reviving the historic models with Swiss-made reissues at reasonable prices. As soon as it was announced. I projected myself with it on my wrist. Initially planned as a limited edition in number, given the craze, Nivada had decided to make a limited edition in time.
After a few months of waiting it arrived to my great pleasure.

I must say that it is sublime, it is my first chronograph certainly mecaquartz but I am very happy because it is extremely well made.

The details and finishes are numerous for a very affordable budget.
Its case alternating polished/brushed, its polished chamfers on the horns, its matte black dial, its three sub-dials textured with concentric champagne-colored circles, its applied indexes loaded with super luminova in the old radium style, its hands of the same composition are simple and effective, the orange second hand of the chronograph follows this captivating orange railway surrounded by the tachymeter scale, its double-domed sapphire crystal and its bidirectional graduated aluminum bezel. 

All these details and attributes make it resolutely a neo-vintage style watch that transports me to the seventies. 

Finally, Nivada follows up with a combo, crown engraved with an N and a case back magnificently engraved with Nivada Grenchen and its logo.

Chronoking Paul Newman orange 

On vacation in Brittany, and while the rain falls without stopping, I decide to spend the time looking for my next watch. 

I then come across an article presenting the future Chronoking called "Paul Newman" by Nivada Grenchen, this disappeared brand that is rising from its ashes since its acquisition a few years ago now. 
Initially announced at a small hundred copies, Nivada finally decides to innovate by offering a one-month pre-order period for anyone wishing to get this pretty watch. Luckily, the date of opening of the pre-orders corresponded to the very day of my discovery of this watch. Without further ado, I savor my Breton galette and settle comfortably in an armchair while waiting for the exact time of opening of the orders (2 p.m.). 
At 2:03 pm, I am the happy (future) owner of the Chronoking Paul Newman, whose delivery is however not scheduled for several months, at the end of October (we are now at the end of July). 

I am writing this text about 3 weeks after receiving this timepiece. Let's start at the beginning, the unboxing: a fairly simple but very effective box, I did not expect to have a collector's box for this price (a little less than €500). However, the surprise was total when I discovered the watch: I did not at all have the impression of observing a watch at this price. In terms of finishes and quality of materials, the impression is that of a premium watch, both in terms of the case, the dial, and even the strap (I chose a black "racing" leather). It is not light, but it is not heavy either. 

Once on the wrist, I am won over by its dimensions: a diameter of 38mm (46.5mm lug to lug) for a thickness of just over 13mm, it is very appreciable for a chronograph, especially for those who, like me, do not have a large wrist. The readability is excellent, the slightly domed glass brings out the colors well. 

Concerning the specifications: the watch is equipped with a Seiko meca-quartz movement (VK63), sapphire crystal and polished-brushed case. The watch is assembled in Switzerland (and not Swiss Made). 
Design-wise, this is a reissue of a watch released in the 70s and equipped at the time with a Valjoux 72.
The dials refer to the work of Jean Singer, a major Swiss dial manufacturer based in La Chaux-de-Fonds and very famous for having produced some of the most iconic dials: Speedmaster Racing, the punchy Heuer Skipper or the intensely blue Nina from Universal,...
