The Black Bay 54 is the most representative example of the first TUDOR diver's watch, the reference 7922. The 37 mm case retains the same proportions as before, while benefiting from the TUDOR Manufacture Calibre MT5400 and water resistance to 200 m, technical feats.

HISTORICAL PROPORTIONS AND TECHNICAL PROWESS

The Black Bay 54 model is the model closest, aesthetically speaking, to the first TUDOR diver's watch, the reference 7922. Offered with a 37 mm case, it retains the general proportions of its source of inspiration while being equipped with the high-performance Manufacture Calibre MT5400 and water resistance to 200 m. A characteristic element and faithful to the aesthetics of the period, the unidirectional bezel does not have a minute graduation. However, the aesthetic details do not stop at the dimensions of the case and the bezel. The seconds hand, with its round luminous disc, evokes the appearance of the hand of the original model. The ergonomics have also evolved with a redesigned crown and bezel, but which nevertheless retain the historical spirit.

A DIVE INTO THE PAST

The spirit of Black Bay is part of the history of the brand. The Black Bay line has always highlighted iconic elements of old TUDOR diver’s watches, but the Black Bay 54 is perhaps the closest model to a specific historical piece created to date. The Oyster Prince Submariner reference 7922, one of the first modern diver’s watches, is a great source of inspiration since it is known to have been evaluated and then adopted by the French and American Navies as well as widely used by the pioneers of professional diving. The first versions of the reference 7922 featured a “small crown”, but not yet the red triangle at 12 o’clock, which would later become one of the brand’s signatures. These details gave it a refined and understated aesthetic. The Black Bay 54 is faithful to its model and takes up a large number of distinctive details. The minute hand, for example, in addition to adjusted proportions, is beveled at its base, as on the 1954 model. The second hand is as close as can be to the original. The profile of the bezel ring is also faithful to that of the reference 7922, as are the markings on its aluminum insert. The Black Bay 54 also features resolutely modern touches, such as a satin-sun dial and a “T-fit” clasp for a perfect fit and, of course, the Manufacture Caliber MT5400, a concentrate of high-performance watchmaking technology.

TUDOR pays tribute to the brand's first diving watches with the Black Bay 58, a model whose dimensions recall those of the period. Equipped with a TUDOR Manufacture Caliber MT 5402 COSC, the Black Bay 58 is designed for slim wrists, lovers of more compact watches and vintage enthusiasts.

The Black Bay 58 model is named in reference to the year 1958 when the first TUDOR diving watch water-resistant to 200 meters, the reference 7924 or "Big Crown", was presented. Among other aesthetic nods to this historic watch, the model offers a 39 mm diameter case approaching the characteristic proportions of the 1950s.

In my opinion, the Rolex Submariner Date is a must-have when you love watches. Almost 10 years after acquiring my first Rolex, I took the plunge and was lucky enough to be able to buy the Submariner before I turned 30. This watch is iconic, timeless and can be worn with everything. It is a watch that I am sure I will never get tired of or part with.

My submariner is iconic, perfect size for my wrist and its comfort is exemplary.. it goes so well with a shirt or sweatshirt, completely under its spell.

My Grail

Well, for my part, this watch was given to me for my 40th birthday. Beyond this advertising maxim that everyone knows, entering the watchmaking industry by starting with the Rolex Submariner is still a bit unusual. Indeed, having always been a watch enthusiast, I had never taken the plunge. And it is thanks to my partner, who, seeing this watch on my computer screen, was the one who gathered all her savings to give me this sumptuous gift... and now for 12 years, this watch has followed me everywhere, whether on vacation or during the renovations of the house, it practically never leaves me. And even if I have since acquired other watch jewels, it still retains my preference, and I have a little anecdote: during the work on the house, a friend who was giving me a hand said to me, you are still the only worker I know who wears a Rolex... And that's what I like about Rolex. This watch is a real gem, and also a real tool watch.

If you don't have a Rolex by the time you're 50, you've wasted your life!

Watch purchased in 2018 without a waiting list. It was really my holy grail at the time (now I have another one). The watch is really perfect. The strap is incredibly high quality, without any play and greatly contributes to the quality aspect of the watch. I do not regret my purchase. Too bad that at the time you couldn't choose inserts in several colors like now.

The reference sub

Before acquiring my first Rolex, a 41mm rhodium DJ, I was mainly eyeing professional models. Unfortunately (or fortunately?), at that time (in 2019), it was unthinkable to find a new one without having a purchase history as long as your arm at your AD. Intent on buying a new model at all costs, I did not even consider the second-hand option. So it was after several years and a watchmaking journey that had evolved over time that I said to myself: why not? Let's specify that I had the opportunity to buy a 126610LN at my AD in Muscat. But after trying it on, there was no longer any doubt, I needed a thinner model, easier to wear and with an aluminum bezel. So I headed to my favorite second-hand store and found it within a minute. 2 days later I had it on my wrist, and have never regretted it since!

A must-have

My first Rolex in almost 3 years. For me it is the essential to have in your collection whatever its reference. I like its versatility because it can be worn with any outfit, as well as shorts for a barbecue or as a suit for a wedding. I never get tired of it and I still love wearing it. It is a model and a reference that I recommend.
