The Black Bay 54 is the most representative example of the first TUDOR diver's watch, the reference 7922. The 37 mm case retains the same proportions as before, while benefiting from the TUDOR Manufacture Calibre MT5400 and water resistance to 200 m, technical feats.

HISTORICAL PROPORTIONS AND TECHNICAL PROWESS

The Black Bay 54 model is the model closest, aesthetically speaking, to the first TUDOR diver's watch, the reference 7922. Offered with a 37 mm case, it retains the general proportions of its source of inspiration while being equipped with the high-performance Manufacture Calibre MT5400 and water resistance to 200 m. A characteristic element and faithful to the aesthetics of the period, the unidirectional bezel does not have a minute graduation. However, the aesthetic details do not stop at the dimensions of the case and the bezel. The seconds hand, with its round luminous disc, evokes the appearance of the hand of the original model. The ergonomics have also evolved with a redesigned crown and bezel, but which nevertheless retain the historical spirit.

A DIVE INTO THE PAST

The spirit of Black Bay is part of the history of the brand. The Black Bay line has always highlighted iconic elements of old TUDOR diver’s watches, but the Black Bay 54 is perhaps the closest model to a specific historical piece created to date. The Oyster Prince Submariner reference 7922, one of the first modern diver’s watches, is a great source of inspiration since it is known to have been evaluated and then adopted by the French and American Navies as well as widely used by the pioneers of professional diving. The first versions of the reference 7922 featured a “small crown”, but not yet the red triangle at 12 o’clock, which would later become one of the brand’s signatures. These details gave it a refined and understated aesthetic. The Black Bay 54 is faithful to its model and takes up a large number of distinctive details. The minute hand, for example, in addition to adjusted proportions, is beveled at its base, as on the 1954 model. The second hand is as close as can be to the original. The profile of the bezel ring is also faithful to that of the reference 7922, as are the markings on its aluminum insert. The Black Bay 54 also features resolutely modern touches, such as a satin-sun dial and a “T-fit” clasp for a perfect fit and, of course, the Manufacture Caliber MT5400, a concentrate of high-performance watchmaking technology.

TUDOR pays tribute to the brand's first diving watches with the Black Bay 58, a model whose dimensions recall those of the period. Equipped with a TUDOR Manufacture Caliber MT 5402 COSC, the Black Bay 58 is designed for slim wrists, lovers of more compact watches and vintage enthusiasts.

The Black Bay 58 model is named in reference to the year 1958 when the first TUDOR diving watch water-resistant to 200 meters, the reference 7924 or "Big Crown", was presented. Among other aesthetic nods to this historic watch, the model offers a 39 mm diameter case approaching the characteristic proportions of the 1950s.

I was lucky enough to acquire this piece a little less than 3 years ago now, since then I have never taken it off my wrist, I wear it 24/7, work, sports, outings. Its professional nature, its easily adjustable wearing comfort, its blue sunray dial which gives it all the shades of Blue, and the fact that it is yellow Rolesor make it a watch that lends itself to all situations. My favorite which has become my inseparable, this unfortunately leaves little room at the moment for my other watches.

My one and only Daily Watch 

In the blue depths of the sea, Shines my Rolex Submariner 126613lb, Gold and steel, a rare combination, A jewel of watchmaking technology. I chose this timepiece one morning in June 2021, after a restless night and a rude awakening. I knew nothing about watchmaking but a desire to discover a new universe tickled me. Why not this strange world of fine watchmaking, strange because far from my standards of connected watches to which I was addicted. Six months later, in store, I enter and leave with this magnificent Sub 126613lb with a deep and captivating royal blue dial. Yes I was lucky. Of all them, this is the one I wanted, no other. Since then, I wear it, I admire it, I introduce it to my world as a sportsman, it will perhaps one day introduce me to its own, that of the depths. But the story doesn't end there, other timepieces have since joined my collection. Fine watchmaking is a world in its own right, where each watch tells a unique story, the fruit of the expertise and know-how of its creators.

First experience

The Submariner 126613LB is an exceptionally robust jewel watch. Its steel and yellow gold case, combined with its Oyster bracelet, gives it an elegant and timeless look. Its precise and reliable automatic movement makes it a faithful companion. I am delighted by its design and its water resistance up to 300 meters. The brand Ollech &amp; Wajs was created in 1956 by Joseph Ollech and Albert Wajs in Zurich, Switzerland. Albert was responsible for the design, engineering and manufacturing of the watches, while Joseph handled marketing and retail sales. Before creating their own watches under the brand Ollech &amp; Wajs, they started their business in 1954 making steel bracelets for other brands.
The brand is known for distributing watches to units of the American army during the Vietnam War and for having earned its reputation among divers and pilots around the world.
