The Tudor Black Bay Chrono is a watch that merges the heritage of diving watches from the Black Bay collection with the world of motorsport, thus embodying a sports chronograph with a timeless design, presenting multiple variations, notably with vibrant colored dials.

Design and Aesthetics

The 41mm diameter stainless steel case features a polished and satin finish, reflecting Tudor's attention to detail. The watch is available in different dial versions: black with silver counters (often called "reverse panda") and opaline with black counters ("panda"). These contrasts improve readability while providing a vintage aesthetic. The "Snowflake" hands, Tudor's signature since 1969, ensure optimal reading of the time.

The fixed stainless steel bezel has a black anodized aluminum insert with a silver tachymeter scale, allowing average speeds to be measured, a feature popular with motorsport enthusiasts.

Movement and Performance

The Black Bay Chrono is powered by the manufacture caliber MT5813, an automatic chronograph movement equipped with a bidirectional rotor system. This movement, chronometer certified by the COSC, offers a power reserve of approximately 70 hours. It is equipped with a column wheel and a vertical clutch, ensuring increased precision and reliability.

This caliber is the result of a collaboration with Breitling, based on their B01 movement, but modified according to Tudor standards, notably with the addition of a silicon hairspring.

Features

The watch displays hours, minutes, seconds, date at 6 o'clock and has a chronograph function with a 45-minute counter at 3 o'clock and a small seconds at 9 o'clock. The screwed pushers, inspired by the first Tudor chronographs, ensure easy use of the chronograph while guaranteeing the water resistance of the watch.

Bracelets and Personalization

Tudor offers several strap options for the Black Bay Chrono:

  • Riveted steel bracelet: Inspired by bracelets from the 1950s and 1960s, it features riveted links with exposed heads and stepped construction, providing strength and comfort.

  • Put on a bracelet: an elegant alternative that gives a vintage touch to the watch.

  • Fabric bracelet: made using the jacquard technique by a century-old French family business, it offers lightness and comfort.

Waterproofing and Robustness

The Black Bay Chrono is water resistant up to 200 meters (20 ATM), making it a watch suitable for scuba diving. This feature, combined with its robustness and precision, makes it an ideal choice for water and motor sports enthusiasts.

Conclusion

The Tudor Black Bay Chrono embodies the perfect fusion between the heritage of diving watches and the world of the sports chronograph. With its careful design, its high-performance movement and its multiple customization options, it is aimed at watch enthusiasts looking for a piece combining tradition and modernity.

Having truly fallen under the spell of time in 2021, I was looking to acquire my second timepiece from a major watch manufacturer 1 and a half years later. However, after watching many videos of Xavier, after reading an infinite number of articles and specialist magazines, I still couldn't make up my mind... One fine day (or was it a night?), I went to a shop well known to the people of Lyon for its second-hand watches to just "look and try" without any definite intention to buy and luck would have it that I found myself next to this beauty in the same place, at the same time. From the window, my attention was caught. It must be said that it is imposing with its 41mm case that the 2 push buttons and the imposing flat crown with a rose logo make even more imposing. The watch is "heavy" which goes hand in hand with the impression of solidity that it gives off. Comfortable to wear on the wrist, mesmerizing visual: The black-opal mix is really successful and the absence of a third under-counter alongside the small seconds and the timer avoids weighing down the dial too much. "Oyster" bracelet with classic folding clasp and closure forming the "Tudor Shield". Nice. The aluminum tachymeter bezel and silver indications are outdated but undeniably make the charm of the watch. The stopwatch is, in 2023, a gadget but remains an essential watchmaking complication! Be careful to screw the buttons back in after use otherwise bye-bye to the water resistance (200 meters)! (We learn this with experience -_-) COSC certification for remarkable and noted precision as much as the domed sapphire crystal. The watch is difficult to find in AD which confirms that Tudor has been moving upmarket for a few years and is now only the "little sister of Rolex". #waitinglist. It can therefore be an interesting investment (its value on the grey market tends to be higher than in stores) On the downsides, the case back is solid and poorly worked. No aesthetic interest. The luminova is not the brightest and fades quickly and the chronograph second hand is not coated with it so that the functionality is of no use at night or in the dark. Noted. Date window at 6 o'clock without a magnifying glass. Too bad. The whole thing is still very good, however; try it and you'll love it! Nb: its sporty look suits all types of styles or outfits but its size requires a certain wrist size.
