The Tudor Pelagos FXD is a professional diver's watch that embodies the brand's maritime heritage while incorporating modern innovations. Designed in collaboration with the French Navy, this watch is specially adapted to the needs of combat swimmers and professional divers.

Design et Construction

The Pelagos FXD case is made of satin-finish titanium, offering lightness and resistance to corrosion. With a diameter of 42 mm, a thickness of 12.75 mm and a length of 52 mm from lug to lug, it ensures a robust presence on the wrist while remaining comfortable. Fixed bracelet lugs, machined into the case, provide added strength, essential for demanding underwater operations.

The matte navy blue dial is adorned with luminescent “Snowflake” indexes and hands, a Tudor signature since 1969, ensuring optimal readability in low light conditions. The bidirectional rotating titanium bezel, featuring a ceramic insert with a 60-minute retrograde graduation, is designed for underwater navigation in successive stages, allowing divers to precisely time their journeys.

Movement and Performance

At the heart of the Pelagos FXD is the manufacture caliber MT5602, a self-winding mechanical movement chronometer-certified by the COSC. It offers a power reserve of approximately 70 hours and is equipped with a bidirectional rotor, ensuring optimal winding efficiency. The silicon hairspring provides increased resistance to magnetic fields, ensuring long-lasting precision.

The watch is water resistant up to 200 meters (660 feet), meeting the requirements of professional divers. This waterproofing is reinforced by a screw-down titanium crown decorated with the Tudor shield in relief, ensuring effective protection against water infiltration.

Bracelet and Confort

The Pelagos FXD is equipped with a navy blue fabric strap with a gray central band, made from polyethylene woven using the Jacquard technique by Julien Faure in France. This bracelet, featuring a hook-and-loop closure system, easily adjusts to different wrist sizes, providing comfort and security. An additional woven pattern rubber strap is also included, allowing for versatility depending on user preference.

Heritage and Collaboration with the French Navy

From the 1950s to the 1980s, Tudor was the official supplier to the French Navy, equipping divers with robust and reliable watches. The Pelagos FXD revives this tradition, integrating unique specifications developed in collaboration with a specialized unit of the French Navy. The back of the steel case is engraved with the logo of the French Navy and the inscription "M.N.21", in reference to "Marine nationale 2021", inspired by the historic engravings of diving watches supplied to the Navy.

Specific Features for Underwater Navigation

The design of the Pelagos FXD is optimized for underwater navigation, a technique used by combat swimmers to reach precise points without emerging. This method involves timed courses in a straight line, guided by a magnetic compass. The bezel's retrograde graduation and luminescence make it easy to set up and monitor each countdown, aligning the scheduled time for each segment on the bezel with the minute hand. When the needle reaches the triangle, the team changes course and the timing diver starts the next countdown.

Conclusion

The Tudor Pelagos FXD is a professional diver's watch that combines the brand's historical heritage with modern technical innovations. Its robust design, its high-performance movement and its close collaboration with the French Navy make it a reliable tool for divers and watch enthusiasts. Whether for demanding underwater missions or everyday use, the Pelagos FXD embodies Tudor's commitment to excellence and functionality.

Tudor I love it!

4.9

I let myself be tempted by this Pelagos FXD, while I already own the classic Pelagos (which I will review one of these days). They share the lightness of the titanium material, the reliability and power reserve (70 hours) of the automatic movement, the dominant blue, and the incredible quality of the luminova. But it is really not the same watch! The blue of the FXD is less "artificial" than its big sister, a slightly deeper navy blue, more discreet, marrying very well with the gray of the titanium. No date, which is for me an advantage in terms of sobriety and balance. The bezel is bi-directional, which is very practical (especially for combat swimmers!). And above all the lugs are fixed, no pumps risking breaking. This of course limits the choice of strap (it's not really a Nato that comes with the watch, but it's very comfortable and well designed), and therefore this watch is intended more for everyday, sports, vacation, casual use, than for dress use. Nice reminder on the case back of the partnership with the French Navy (and the vintage). The quality of the luminova is such that you can easily read the time at the end of the night. The watch is very pleasant to wear, between the lightness of the titanium and the possibility of adapting in 2 seconds the imitation Nato strap with velcro. It's certainly a fairly recent purchase, but I have a hard time leaving it, and I feel that it will accompany me all summer and much more. Another success from Tudor. We always wonder why pay double and wait 2 years for the cousin to the crown...
