The GW-5000U is designed in the spirit of the first G-Shocks - that's how I like them - but it has modern features like solar charging or multi-band. A more high-end version than the 5600s, it is made in Japan; it benefits from a high-quality resin and a very appreciable screwed back. The famous "shock resist" logo underlined in red gives it that little retro side of the first G-Shocks. Comfort is there but you will need nails or sharp fingers to manipulate the pushers. The contrast is excellent (even with polarized glasses) and the LED lighting is very effective. It is a purist's G-Shock that will accompany me everywhere that the other watches in my collection cannot accompany me without fear.

G-Shock GW-5000U: authentically modern!

As a GMT and "tool" watch enthusiast, I was initially going for an Explorer II, and I was also able to try the 226570 at the same time as the Black Bay Pro (BB Pro)! Despite the availability of the Rolex, I only had eyes for the crown keeper.
I appreciate this BB Pro first and foremost for its bezel, whose satin finish is very beautifully crafted. This bezel highlights a matte dial that oscillates between anthracite gray and black. It highlights studs made of a kind of ceramic and well-integrated snowflake hands. Obviously, the orange-yellow GMT hand energizes the design without overdoing it. The cream shade of the studs and hands brings a slightly vintage touch. Visibility is excellent during the day and the luminova is super powerful. Everything is enhanced by a domed sapphire crystal that gives beautiful distortions.
The bracelet would have been more elegant without its rivets, but it is very comfortable! The "on the fly" adjustment system of the clasp of this BB pro is amazingly simple and effective. Besides, I like to change my strap regularly, I never considered it for this BB Pro.
It is not a thin watch, I grant you, but when worn it is not shocking, especially thanks to harmonious proportions, a contained diameter of 39mm and an oversized signed crown; finally a mirror polish on the edge and fine chamfers finish off lightening the whole. She is an adventurer, she likes military shirts with rolled up sleeves; rest assured, a simple swimsuit is enough for her because she also enjoys swimming with its 200m water resistance.
The "true GMT" caliber MT5652 (COSC) is very precise and easy to use.
Ultimately, this BB pro is an efficient and comfortable watch that makes me smile every time I see that GMT hand set to the time zone of a city where I've had so many great times.

A GMT armed for adventure!

The Explorer, you either love it or you don't pay any attention to it, it's up to you...
For my part, this Explorer is a watch that has spoken to me for years. Here, it is the reference 124270, a version that combines heritage and modernity. Indeed, we find the classic deep black dial, the Mercedes hand and the famous 3-6-9-triangle. This Rolex has managed to keep "vintage" proportions with a historic diameter of 36mm and a visually very successful brushed oyster bracelet thanks to an "old-fashioned taper" from 19 to 14 mm. The fine links and an extension allowing you to easily gain a few millimeters in case of extreme heat make this bracelet very comfortable. Without a chamfer, the case with slightly curved sides is topped with a beveled bezel that slightly overflows onto the bracelet, which gives the whole thing a beautiful presence.
The daytime readability is excellent whatever the reading angle, thanks in particular to the faceted indexes and hands; the luminova makes the pleasure last all night long.
Light, thin and waterproof, this watch is easy to wear in all situations.
Celebrating a significant moment in my life, its name resonates with me and reminds me every day how urgent it is to explore the rest of one's life.

Explore: To the summits and beyond!

Stealthy like the S617 and as black as the black pearl, this 5303 has charm. Its atypical design is inspired by great achievements (Seamaster 300), yet it seems unique. The finish is excellent. The Soprod Newton movement is precise (-2 to -4s/d). The only downside is the handling of the crown which could be improved.

The Serica 4512 Commando or how to make a "field watch" exciting!
This is a discreet and efficient watch but one that does not lack character. Its case is simply brushed but its large bezel - brushed vertically and with a polished chamfer - gives presence to this watch with very contained dimensions (diameter: 38 mm and horn-to-horn: 46 mm). Simple, contrasting and symmetrical, its deep black dial is a success. I particularly appreciate the typology adopted, the elongation of the markers at each hour and the deformation created by the sapphire crystal. A fan of "broad arrow" hands, those of this Serica are brushed and generously filled with Luminova ensuring optimal reading whatever the light. The manual Soprod P24 mechanism that powers this watch is a model of precision. The generously sized screw-down crown ensures pleasant winding and contributes to the water resistance of the watch announced at 200m. I naturally associate this 4512 with NATOs but its original bonklip-type strap is very comfortable and allows for a change from the military register. What is the little detail that I prefer on this watch? Its bezel certainly contributes to the charm of this piece but what I prefer is this magical moment when the sharp minute hand is superimposed on the hour hand, the whole thing then takes the shape of a fighter plane that systematically makes me dream (see the photo)! In 2023, Rambo would surely go on a mission with a G-Shock but it would not have the charm of this 4512 Commando!

4512, a revisited commando!

Here is a little bomb from 1979: a Citizen Seven Star Quartz. 
The star here is above all the sunburst and smoked dial whose emerald color is simply hypnotic. The dial is enhanced by slightly raised two-tone indexes giving relief to the whole. 
The thin hands match the indexes perfectly. A sign of a typically Japanese attention to detail, the second hand aligns perfectly with the sub-indexes. 
The 70s-style case is small; this is why this watch is mainly worn by my wife who had to swap the original strap - although very comfortable - for a leather strap in her size. 
Finally, the use of Kanji makes this daydate an exotic watch for our countries. Despite its age, this little Citizen is elegant and original, you will have understood: we love it!

A hypnotic Citizen!

The spirit range with date window at 3 o'clock didn't appeal to me, but this 37mm version, window at 6 o'clock, with its contained dimensions caught my attention as soon as it came out. I chose this champagne sunray dial (supposedly for women) whose appearance varies from light gold to silver depending on the light. The finishes are of excellent quality, a mixture of brushed steel and polished chamfer, the engraved crown controls a COSC-certified ETA A31.L11 movement. Mounted on a very comfortable bracelet and equipped with a "quick release" system, it looks sporty but a change of bracelet transforms the watch for a sometimes heritage and sometimes dressy look. I am reducing the quality/price ratio rating following the increase of €260 in 6 months, which is totally unjustified!

Here is a watch without any pretension, except that of reviving the memory of a loved one who left too soon!
Resurrected after a rediscovery and cleaning, this Nappey Besançon from the 80s in 33 mm is powered by a Swiss quartz movement and has the look of an oysterquartz Rolex. Generally hostile to two-tone, I am nevertheless seduced by this model whose gold plating has patinated to the point of disappearing in places. Never mind the spots of oxidation visible here and there, because the sharp shape of its case, its comfortable bracelet and its perfectly preserved dial make it a vintage watch with a modern look. I am happy that the story of this “men’s” watch continues most of the time on my wife’s wrist.

My Longines Spirit titanium 40mm is a special watch for me. It is my engagement watch. The Longines is full of details, between the railroad including diamonds on which the second hand sits perfectly. But also, magnificent gold applied indices. As for the case, Longines alternates polymirror and brushed with the presence of well-marked chamfers. Note the presence of a large crown accentuating the aviation side of the watch.

The level of finish is impeccable and rivals its competitors at this price point... Yes, I'm looking at you Tudor.

I find the titanium very successful, there is no play on the titanium bracelet offering quick pumps.
The watch is COSC certified and alternates at 3Hz extending the power reserve to 72 hours.

Titanium Balance

This is a particularly elegant pilot's watch.
I like the story it tells. It reminds us that at the beginning of the 20th century, aviation pioneers wore Longines. This is only part of Longines' rich, almost bicentennial history.

Technically, it has good specifications considering its price.
It offers beautiful finishes alternating between brushed and polished.
The assembly is impeccable.
The crown is imposing, confirming the pilot's watch side.
The sunray blue dial is detailed.
The indexes are applied and luminescent.
The brand logo and the 5 stars are also applied.
These 5 stars mean that this is a model that has benefited from particular attention to chronometric precision. Longines has been using them for a long time.
Even the railway is well worked with recesses to make room for the small diamond at each hour.
The case back is quite ordinary.

As for the movement, it is efficient and certified as a chronometer by the COSC.
It is the L888.4, oscillating at 25,200 vibrations per hour with a silicon balance spring and equipped with a 72-hour power reserve.

The original bracelet is pretty with a clasp with a butterfly buckle.


A tribute to the spirit of aviation pioneers!

The Longines Spirit collection is expanding with a new chronograph in grade 5 titanium. This lightweight piece comes on a black synthetic strap with neon green stitching, matching the matte black hands and Arabic numerals on the dial, coated with Super-LumiNova for optimal visibility. Its 42 mm titanium case houses an exclusive COSC-certified automatic movement (L688.4) with a silicon balance spring. The case back is engraved with “PIONEER EDITION”. Some will find it too thick, due to its thickness of 16.5 mm, but I have no problem pairing it with a shirt. The lightness of the titanium makes it imperceptible on the arm, but the green indexes make it impossible to avoid looking at it. Beautiful lume, resolutely sporty chic synthetic strap, it’s a big yes for me. Can you fall in love with a watch? The answer is YES. COSC-certified, its price was already considered high and has just increased by 10%. I am happy to have taken the plunge in time.

Pioneer Edition

Happy owner of this magnificent Longines Spirit 37mm. I share with you here my opinion on this watch which is very underrated for me! 
Having just graduated from the eco-management degree and accepted into a master's degree in a major business school. I was looking for a gift symbolizing these successes! Passionate about watchmaking, my choice went straight to a watch! While I tried on quite a few models, going through Tudor, Hamilton, Frédérique Constant and many others. But no favorite on the horizon... that's when the saleswoman handed me a Longueur Spirit 37mm. A little skeptical at first because I had already tried it before with a black and blue dial and I hadn't had a favorite, this time I tried the gray/silver version. And there, a real favorite appears! This gray dial brought a beautiful depth, a beautiful visual on the wrist, we can see the relief better inside the dial. In short, my choice was made and my new watch has arrived! 
It's been two months now that I've been the happy owner of this magnificent Longines and I haven't found a single negative point! It wears very well on its steel bracelet, very discreet on the wrist, goes everywhere. In addition, it can very well be matched with a leather strap for the summer or to make it more dressy. For people who have a small wrist like me or who like discreet and versatile watches, this watch is made for you!

For a price that is still relatively accessible, this watch can be a nice alternative to a 36mm OP. The quality level is really excellent for the price.
This watch can be worn with any outfit, from a 3-piece suit to the most casual pieces. The only small regret, the 19mm strap width

Pure versatility!

Having bought my first automatic watch in September 2022 (a Seiko diver), I admit that I got a little tired of it because I found it too large, too heavy, even uncomfortable. So I committed the madness of buying, last January, barely five months after buying my first automatic watch, this superb Longines Spirit 37mm. With a reasonable diameter, pleasant to wear (its metal bracelet is remarkably flexible), relatively thin (11.7mm thick), this watch is a most satisfying entry into the world of Swiss watchmaking. COSC (the watch has never deviated by more than 2 seconds per day), particularly readable thanks to its Arabic numerals, this watch is an everyday pleasure. The alternation of polished and brushed is to delight watch enthusiasts who like details that show that their jewel is a truly crafted object. I bought this watch on Chrono 24, at the end of January 2023, for the sum of 1875 euros, shipping costs included), from a Dutch professional. This watch was absolutely new, never worn I suppose, since the warranty date (of 5 five years, thank you Longines!) started to run from the day the watch was shipped, that is to say the day of my purchase. I admit to being disappointed by the inflation that the watch world is currently experiencing, and Longines is not far behind: with an official price of 2300 euros on a steel bracelet when I bought it, it is now at 2650€!!! The price-quality ratio has therefore deteriorated particularly, although that does not matter to me since I got it at a good price via Chrono24.
