A parody at its peak

When I ordered this watch I didn't have a diver and I saw the pre-sales at a very attractive price for an unusual offer: 42mm bronze case + ceramic bezel + meteorite dial. The value for money criterion is often discussed and questioned when it comes to watches but the Malaysian brand Revelot can be considered the champion of value for money if this notion ever exists. It revisits the great classics by adding variety and fantasy and it offers materials that are not often found in the segment of watches under 500 euros. So it was the pre-sale price and creativity that attracted me more than the tribute silhouette which is not really my cup of tea. I received the watch on time, before my birthday. It was the meteorite dial that particularly attracted me, in reality it stands out very little and seems very sober compared to the oversized indexes, hands and bezel. We can observe reflections depending on the angle but this remains limited compared to the other dials that the brand offers on the Hexamariner. The movement is a Seiko NH35, very classic in watches of this price category that does the job well. The rubber strap is comfortable and worked without being dirty. It is light which is appreciable because the watch already weighs more than a hundred grams, so 130 with the strap. The name of this Malaysian brand has always seemed strange to me, it is a very positive portmanteau word built with “Revel,” meaning joyful celebrations and “Zealot” for an unwavering passion. Only, in my mind it is above all an anagram of “Revolt” and the songs of partisan struggle immediately come to mind (L'estaca, Bella Ciao, le partisan ...). But it is not the musical universe that this watch evokes for me in particular. The soundtrack would be more inspired by the debauchery of effects and means for a crazy quest reminiscent of Steve Zissou's in The Life Aquatic filmed by Wes Anderson. A comedy where music plays a big role. In particular, the theme of the rescue operation at Ping Island fits well ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAbvRyKVHUo&list=PL054A8C7FD2D766C3&index=12 ). In the film, Commander Zissou wears a Vostok amphibia, a simpler, more practical, and even more accessible tool watch (the Amhibias have plexiglass and are less than $200), but at the time Revelot did not exist yet... So why not? Critics hated this comedy with Bill Murray and yet I consider it a cult film. I think it would be the same with this watch that everyone must see as a huge joke. This watch takes the side of seeing seriously what is not serious (or the opposite maybe?), in short it is offbeat and it makes me smile. This is probably often what we expect from a watch, a wink, a complicity on the wrist. Adjective: readable, accessible, maximalist, fanciful, offbeat, assumed, parodic
