This watch is black and gold and represents the twelve signs of the Zodiac instead of 12 o'clock. There are no names for the signs, only the constellations and the dates in which the sun is supposed to be located, but hey, everyone knows, if not the constellations, at least the dates of the signs. So, of course, these dates that horoscopes keep telling us are wrong because astrologers refuse to acknowledge the precession of the equinoxes. So they're right once every 26,000 years. The curious thing is that the ancient Greeks and even the Babylonians knew about this phenomenon of the precession of the equinoxes, and yet astrologers still haven't changed their dates for the astrological signs. I've never been able to explain this; astrologers do a bunch of complicated calculations but are incapable of taking into account a phenomenon as simple as the precession of the equinoxes. There's a version of the watch without the railway, and where the names of the astrological signs are written out in full to prevent idiots from looking at the true position of the sun (taking into account the precession of the equinoxes) and not that of the horoscope. And there's a version without the zodiac sign or date, for those who are tired of horoscopes made without taking the precession of the equinoxes into account and who are looking for a simpler dial. Black watches from the 1980s with star constellations aren't very common. That's what I like about it; beyond having a black/gold combination, which I really like, I like the circle of stars. The 12-month/12-hour ratio seems a bit artificial to me, because basically the year should have 13 months of 28 days and the zodiac 13 signs of 27 degrees rather than 12 of 30 degrees. The 12-month calendar of variable length is a stupidity that unnecessarily complicates the lives of billions of human beings. We never know which day of the week is the 1st of the month, and that complicates any appointment scheduling without a calendar in front of us. As for the clock face, it should instead be a constellation per hour chosen from those that pass by during a night of sky observation in a wild place, where the night is truly beautiful. The soundtrack to listen to would, of course, be the Latvian band Zodiak, a legendary group that I believe broke the sales record for the Mélodia label, a sort of Soviet counterpart to Jean Michel Jarre or Space. We find this universe of spatial imagination, a kind of nostalgia for what the Soviet world did best: evoking the radiant future in which we would master space, far from the present, where we were unable to control the queues for basic necessities. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5HQdXkkfso&list=PLNPGM2D7aODecT5qdtkKU0gdhSQRe0jd9 The reflective faceted checkerboard at 12 o'clock above the brand's Slava logo further reinforces this '80s space electronic music atmosphere.
