A watch ready for adventure, cold, heat, the sea (1000m waterproof!!!), the mountains, the metro, running, hiking, etc. etc. Yes, but all this with style, precision and radical design.

I have become a true fan of the brand, its history but also totally convinced of the seriousness of the relaunch by its buyer, Charles Le Ménestrel.

In terms of case, its 39.5mm suits me perfectly and its rather long lugs allow to refine the overall balance of the case which is, it must be said, very thick (between 15 and 16mm). You have to try it to realize the very good balance of this watch which is not at all clumsy in my eyes.

Note that the watch runs impeccably, powered by a perfectly coherent ETA 2824-2 movement and well adjusted by the watchmakers at OW.

Bought second-hand (almost new) via Chrono24 for barely 1000 euros, I don't see many serious competitors that can compete with this watch that is both logical and classy.

A small downside that was quickly rectified: the glass insert that overhangs the graduated bezel was damaged after a few weeks in a very urban environment and without me realizing it. Once contacted, the after-sales service answered me, in French, quickly and took charge of the repair (still under warranty). The watch was returned repaired in less than 4 weeks. This hassle, although it surprised me a lot, confirms the seriousness of the OW house, from whom I had not bought the watch new.

A Diver for adventure

With this vintage white gold Breguet, dating from the end of the 1980s, we dive into the watchmaking purity of the immense Breguet house, perpetuated by the creative genius of Daniel Roth and his acolytes who have given meaning and legitimacy to these collections. Here it is a very simple 3-hand watch in white gold; but yet we find everything Breguet: the apple hands, the Roman numerals, the straight handles, the fluted case middle and of course: the admirable guilloché.
Here, it is an extra flat model (about 5mm thick), combined with a size of only 32.5mm which fits wonderfully on almost any male wrist in my opinion (but too many refuse to do so, and I tend to say - so much the better!!!).
A joy of elegance, goes everywhere and marvels of softness all in solid gold.

Watchmaking purity

First automatic watch I bought for my 25th birthday, I was looking for a rather elegant and refined watch. While I knew almost nothing about the codes and depth of watchmaking in which I would gradually sink, this Max Bill, and the story of its eponymous designer had attracted me.

Today, it no longer really corresponds to my tastes with its very large dial opening and the total absence of a bezel. However, I must recognize its qualities of elegance, simplicity and extreme readability with its perfectly aligned hands and indexes.

Its robust and basic movement, a 2824-2 does the job but we will still regret this ghost date when you pull the crown.

Be careful, a relatively fragile watch, a mineral glass that I damaged twice, and a crown (incredible) that remained in my hand when I pulled it very gently as usual.

A Gold-Steel configuration at Rolex is always a bit old-fashioned, decadent, even vulgar. And yet, that's precisely what makes this DateJust from 1983 so cool. 

It's hard to say that it's elegant and discreet, but its 36mm diameter, its plexiglass, and the 40 years it's been worn make it much easier to put on your wrist. Above all, how can you not drool over this black dial and its large applied indexes? 

An iconic jewel and flawless mechanics for an inimitable style. 

One last detail? the totally patinated "white" date window with its open 6 and 9.

When yesterday's bling makes today's cool

We've said everything, seen everything, said everything again and reviewed everything about Rolex, especially about the Submariner. And yet! This one is a 14060M (4 lines) that I acquired more than two years ago via the CDA. It was my first watch "madness". Since then, my tastes in watches have of course evolved a lot: having gone through Longines, Cartier, Patek Philippe, Omega, returned to Rolex twice (more vintage), etc., nothing helps. This watch is simply unrivaled for me. Far from the bling bling of certain Rolex models that shine with 1000 lights (DateJust 41 fluted bezels and other ceramic models or mirror-polished bracelets), this one is for me the quintessence of Rolex, with enough modernity in terms of comfort and robustness to withstand any test and the contained size and the aluminum bezel. A flaw perhaps? We see too many Submariners everywhere... whether on social media, or in the street/on café terraces: often misused on the wrists of suits and ties that often don't go well with the essence of this sporty, all-terrain diver. In this case, a simple recipe: leave it in the watch box for more than a week and the excitement comes back at a gallop!

The DateJust is, in my opinion, the jewel of my manufacture collection. It sits among my other watches. It fell from the sky. One day, I received a call from my brother who had accompanied his friend to the airport. It was the beginning of the Ukraine/Russia War. He had lost a lot of money on cryptocurrencies. And to bail himself out, he wanted to sell his Datejust 2021 and a Seamaster straight from Korea. He offered them to me and the decision was quick (5 minutes flat). On a whim, I decided to take the Rolex without thinking too much. And, I must tell you that I do not regret it. Its configuration is complete: fluted bezel and Jubilee bracelet. As for the case, it is the historic 36mm size. I love the comfort this watch provides. I think it is the watch of my life.

The Jewel in the Crown

This beautiful Rolex is an inheritance from my father who is no longer of this world, he leaves me as a prize a magnificent Rolex which I think is timeless. These indexes in Roman numerals painted in black are beautiful, the tritium has yellowed in the most beautiful way. These black hands stand out well from the white dial which has not changed color through the plexiglass. I love its fluted bezel, its jubilee bracelet and its small case (36 mm in diameter) an excellent caliber 3035 with a quick date window under its cyclops.

Today I just bought this watch. I went to my AD to see if the Explorer 2 Polar for which I am on the waiting list would, by chance, have arrived. The watch still not being there, I asked the question to know which Rolex would be available immediately. I specified that I only wanted 41mm and especially not two-tone. The saleswoman tricked me by presenting me this model in 36mm and two-tone (the two conditions that I absolutely did not want) knowing that the effect of this model would not leave me indifferent. Bet won, I went home with this watch, which is the smallest in my collection, without thinking more than 5 minutes. I do not regret anything, on the contrary I am completely hypnotized by this palm dial

Love at first sight

I present to you one of the models I have always dreamed of. Very versatile, as chic on leather as sporty on its jubilee. It is a 1987 full stock model, in 10/10 condition. Very happy to have come across this gem, after hesitating for years to take the plunge. It is still waterproof to the same bars as at the time and varies between -4/+4sc per day. The model I always dreamed of

already owning several pro Rolexes, I wanted to acquire a dress Rolex and my choice quickly fell on the Datejust. I made the mistake of initially buying a 41 mm DJ with a white background and fluted bezel but I quickly found that it lacked elegance with its large 41 mm diameter and its oyster bracelet. I sold it and bought this superb 116234. I find it incredibly elegant and exceptionally comfortable with its jubilee bracelet. The silver sunray dial is sublime. The discreet marking of the indexes with Roman numerals also contributes to the classic/elegant side. Another advantage, I find it very versatile for a classic watch.

The ultimate dressy Rolex

My first watch bought in 1993, model 16220 in a 36mn case which was then the standard. It accompanied me daily for almost 15 years without sharing, before the nice demon of watchmaking knocked on my door!.... Elegant and discreet, it also knows how to be original with its "Rolex printed" dial and the indexes placed in the shape of a lottery wheel. Perfect operation until today, it has only had one service in 2015 almost for the form. A little neglected today but when I take it out of its original box it is always with a lot of emotion and lots of memories come back then...

The one and only

I really enjoy giving my opinion on this great watch (the tone is set).
Initially, I had registered on a wish list at an AD Rolex, only Rolex. By forcing a little and making a few regular phone calls to show my interest, it took me less than a year to get the famous call.
In the end, I am not disappointed. The size is perfect if like me, you have a small wrist.
We can criticize it or on the contrary love it, the Wimbledon dial is incredible and very bright.
Finally, the simplicity of the oyster bracelet and the smooth bezel allow for a more discreet and less identifiable look.

We don't need to introduce it anymore, the Rolex Datejust 36mm is THE historic model of the brand with the crown.
Recognizable among 1000 thanks to its fluted bezel, its jubilee bracelet and its famous cyclops magnifying glass.
The history of this watch begins in 1945 and continues to be written today. I think that the success of this model is linked to the fact that Rolex has been able to preserve the avant-garde spirit of the Datejust while adding a touch of modernity with ever more attractive innovations.
What I like about my DJ 36mm is first of all its so-called classic watch look, which allows me to wear it every day and on all occasions.
I am particularly a fan of the jubilee bracelet, really very comfortable and the "easy link" function offers the possibility of adjusting the watch in a few seconds, super practical especially in summer when the wrist swells because of the heat or humidity.
For me, Datejust rhymes with fluted bezel. I find it so much classier than the simple bezel. Add to that the sunray dial which offers magnificent reflections depending on the light and you get the perfect mix between sophistication and elegance.
Small note, many people wonder about the size and hesitate between 36mm and 41mm… I had both models in my possession (126334 and 126234, black dial for both). At first I found the 41mm ideal but after wearing it for 2 months, I decided to resell it because I found it too big for my wrist. The 36mm is much more elegant and proportionate for my wrist (about 17cm, I measure 1m87 for 88kg).

The Roman numerals on it are black and surrounded by green - "wimbledongreen", which is at the same time reminiscent of Rolex and Wimbledon. At Baselworld 2016, a new version of Datejust appeared. The Ref. 126303 is also available with a Wimbledon dial. During the year, the Grand Slam tournament has already appeared on several social networks and not only because Roger Federer will defend his championship title. He even wore his Rolex “Wimbledon” at the award ceremony. The Rolesor model has a 41 mm case diameter and shines with its domed bezel. Its predecessor had a power reserve of 48 hours, which was extended to 70 hours with this new model. Equipped with a Rolex Manufacture movement caliber 3235, it is a faithful companion that combines traditional design with the latest technology – in the style of Rolex and Wimbledon.

ROLEX DATEJUST 36 WIMBLEDON 

I wanted a small watch with yellow gold because I love this material. I came across this model while doing a configuration on the Rolex website. 
So I visited my AD like many others who put me on the list. A week later I received a call to inform me that my watch was waiting for me at the store. 
I really love this watch that may seem Bling Bling and it is, but I like it like that. 
It's always a pleasure to wear it with my other pieces. I wear it in all circumstances, no matter what I'm wearing, because a watch is above all to be worn for oneself and not for others.

A perfect watch for every day. Robust, versatile, I can wear it with jeans and a t-shirt as well as with a suit. It remains quite discreet (36mm). The jubilee bracelet is very comfortable but it is also very beautiful mounted on a leather strap. I highly recommend this watch.

Rolex Datejust 1601

After spending many years wearing affordable Japanese watches (Seiko), I set out to find my first "beautiful" piece. It was flawless. This Rolex DateJust 126234 is perhaps perfection incarnate. Elegant, sporty but above all versatile. It perfectly embodies what an everyday watch should represent. Its contained size is a snub to the race for ever more imposing clocks and makes it a formidable ally that can be slipped under the sleeves of a well-cut shirt.

Legendary and timeless

A watch seen and reviewed... or not! The Datejust is a great classic of the brand with the crown, a timeless piece. Open your eyes in the street and you will see loads of them. Too many perhaps? It is quite possible however, it is only a reflection of the efficiency of this model. Almost sporty, almost dress watch... so excellent nowhere? In reality it is quite the opposite! The Oyster bracelet and the smooth bezel bring THE sporty touch to this very elegant diameter (36mm). This timepiece goes just as well with a suit as with the very (too?) fashionable t-shirt-jeans-sneakers and this, without entering into the "disruptive" concepts dear to the Marketing departments of our beloved manufacturers. (cf: the communication around the submariner in the 70s where the latter is worn under the sleeve of a tuxedo). At the office? It is discreet. At the beach? No worries, it does very well underwater (10 bar). And otherwise, shall we talk about this date roulette? Even days in black, odd days in red... Rolex fun at its peak! Joking aside, this little twist is superbly effective and radically changes your perception of the watch from one day to the next. A classic DJ on the 2nd of the month and the next day you almost feel like you're wearing a Turn-O-Graph (ref: 116264). This is a trifle, a detail that some people will find of little interest but which means that, 12 years later, I am still as in love with my watch. I am not a Rolex fan, far from it. I like other manufacturers much more, most of them less renowned, less prestigious, more accessible, ... I have other pretty watches, with more "character" and yet, if I had to wear only one until the end of my days, it would without hesitation be this Datejust 36 date roulette which does everything wonderfully well.

My first Rolex. It was while searching that I came across this reference which is not only very elegant and not very expensive for a Rolex. It is in my opinion one of the best first Rolex that one can have. Nothing to say about this exceptional watch except that the bracelet from this period is a little cheap. Rolex Datejust 36mm mint green dial ref. 126234 purchased new in October 2022

The disco ball: the affectionate nickname I give it. And at the same time, to my taste, the jubilee bracelet fluted bezel configuration is the most appropriate on this emblematic model of the brand with the crown. But the detail that pushed me to buy this watch is this new mint green dial. Magnificent, quite simply. It will change shade of green during the day depending on the light, from an English green to an emerald green. The jubilee bracelet is indeed ultra comfortable, without making the Oyster uncomfortable. The addition of the Oysterclasp on the new generations of Datejust (equipped with the 3235 movement) is certainly less discreet than the old one which was almost invisible. But this new clasp adds the easylink comfort extension, a folding link adding 5mm of length, very useful and practical in summer in particular. Finally, the fluted bezel. Well proportioned on the 36mm, neither too thin nor too thick. It offers magnificent reflections, and once again it blends very well with the jubilee bracelet. 
A small detail on my Datejust: the Rolex logo on the crown is perfectly straight and aligned when the latter is screwed all the way in. A stroke of luck, simple coincidence? I don't think so.

Mint green: a magnificent dial

Since my childhood I have regularly seen this icon on the wrist of many people. Being from the south of France I remember the steel datejust worn completely relaxed on the wrist in gourmette mode with the sun highlighting just sumptuous reflections. It is this image that still comes to mind today when seeing this watch and takes me straight back to my childhood. It is a watch that is both iconic and timeless, the two-tone makes it sporty and very elegant without being flashy.

The most classic rolex model, the datejust 36mm fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet. The size is perfect, the blue sunny dial is beautiful and the new movement with a 70h power reserve is a real plus. This combination really attracts attention which does not allow to make it a daily in my new opinion.

Unable to obtain the new configuration of the Datejust that I wanted, I opted for this neo-vintage reference from my year of birth. It is clear that the watch has aged better than me!

Indeed, it still looks great even if it had to be repolished. Even though it shows some signs of wear, in particular marks on the edges of the sapphire crystal, its timeless look and the additions of the 5-digit Datejust references (sapphire crystal precisely, but also the quick date function) make it a surprisingly viable watch for everyday use given its age. I particularly like this silver sunray dial, which often appears white in photos but which has an interesting depth in the light!

I took the time to investigate an offer with a jubilee bracelet that is still robust and without too much stretch. It is extremely light and very comfortable.

I will never tire of this watch, which also boasts of having introduced me to the world of Rolex!

Very iconic!

What a pleasure to wear this Rolex... It's a Datejust, but which Datejust? It's a 4-digit reference #1603 with a stunning patina dial... and, above all, an Engine-Turned bezel that makes all the difference with a "classic" Datejust with a fluted bezel.

When I bought it ten years ago, I was looking for a fluted DJ, but quite frankly, it was impossible to find one with a bezel in decent condition and not completely destroyed by polishing. Guess what? I realized that there were other, less sought-after, less mainstream opportunities with this very atypical bezel!

In the end, and with the benefit of hindsight, it's easy to wonder why I chose it by default... The 10 years I've spent with it have convinced me of one thing: it was made for me. Admittedly, it doesn't have a quickset date, the strap is flimsy and it's quite scratched, but it's my watch and I loved it the way I bought it, and I still love what it's become!

Vintage vibes!

I'm not a big fan of the firm with the crown, I would even say that I didn't think I would ever own one. It was in 2019 during a visit to Collector Square that the seller offered me to try this watch and it was love at first sight. This magnificent fluted bezel in white gold which gives it magnificent reflections, we often find ourselves playing with it with each ray of sunshine. Its small size for current standards gives it an elegance as well as a discretion which is appreciable lately especially with Rolex. The model I own dates from 1963 and it hasn't aged a day! It's crazy how elegant this watch makes all outfits without overdoing it, whether you're in a suit or jeans and a t-shirt, it will remain in its element without clashing. It's a shame that in recent years these models have become overpriced like the entire Rolex range because I would have recommended it as a first real watch. It is disconcertingly easy to use with a unique style and allure. We can also note the solidity of the 1570 caliber. In short, a real timeless vintage gem.

The choice of the jubilee, the fluted bezel and the bright blue fluted dial, make this 126234 a jewel, the 36mm size seems too small for my 17.5 wrist, the polished folding clasp takes a beating as soon as there is friction (not visually pleasant), for that I do not regret the jubilee which clearly reduces the scratches on the central links very present on the oyster. This watch is water-resistant to 100m and that is reassuring, it makes it usable anywhere (even if this version is in its element in a dressy environment)

A gem!

We don’t need to introduce it anymore. The Rolex. The Datejust. The one that anchored the brand to the crown for eternity. Recognizable at first glance, here is a beautiful example of 1601 in good condition for its 51 years of life. It can be worn in a suit of course, but it also works casually. In short, after all its banalities, it remains a timeless icon. You either love it or you hate it. I love it.
