Bulova - History, Models and Owners' Reviews

Bulova, a brand known mainly for its tuning fork acutron models (the brand's acronym) and the Lunar Pilote, the other moon watch. I bought this great Seville at auction during the covid. The watch was really in excellent cosmetic condition and delivered in its green case very close to the rolex. For me it is a tribute before its time. It dates from 1979 and its 36mm are perfect for my wrist. Originality, the days are in Italian. The caliber is an ETA 2834-2, the same as that mounted in the Tudor Prince of the time. The bracelet is of the jubilee type, with no adjustment other than removing links. Not very practical but quite aesthetic. On the $ side we are at less than €500 including fees, which is very correct for a beautiful vintage day & date.

I bought this watch during my vacation while strolling through the street of watch shops in Saint Martin without any specific goal. I came across this Ad by chance, whom I did not know and who was very friendly. He asked me what I was looking for. I told him that I did not have a model or brand in mind. Seeing what I was wearing on my arm, he told me that I must be a collector. And that's when he told me about a brand that I did not know and directed me to the Accutron display. He had just brought in the latest Casino models. It was a surprise and love at first sight. It was my first watch from the brand in tune.

Omega's legendary moonwatch is not the only one to have gone to the moon. It will undoubtedly remain the first but as few know, another watch has also been on the moon. Indeed it was on August 2, 1971, Commander David Scott was the 7th man to walk on the moon during the Apollo 15 mission. On his wrist, unlike all the other astronauts who took on this role, he wore a Bulova Moon Pilot Chronograph. The one in my possession is obviously a modern reproduction, which can be easily found at a very affordable price unlike its big sister at Omega. It is rather large, we are more on a 43/44 I would say. It is equipped with a nylon strap which I find does not necessarily highlight it and which makes it a little chip. Otherwise the watch itself is of very good quality. It is part of my collection dedicated to space history and watchmaking.
