I am definitely a fan of tool watches. First aviator watch in my collection, I am really not disappointed, wearing comfort 40mm for a thickness of 11mm, readability, technicality, everything is combined in this watch. The versatility on different bracelets makes it versatile in my eyes.

I was looking for a watch that was both readable and robust, with a diameter of less than 40 mm, and I finally chose the 556 in the “A RS” version. I have been wearing this watch daily since 2020, despite my manual work, and I am not disappointed. The first impression that emerges is that of rock-solid solidity as soon as you take it in your hand. It is quite heavy with its metal bracelet, weighing 160 g. The brushed metal and the raw shape of the case also give it a very robust look. I was able to test this solidity for 4 years: I knocked it, scratched it, rubbed it, shook it, and yet it still works just as well. The second characteristic that strikes you is the readability. The deep matte black dial, the thick hands and the sober graduation make it possible to read the time quickly. The anti-reflective glass does its job well when clean, but it is susceptible to micro-scratches over time. The mechanism is easy to adjust, and the date change is smooth. The screw-down crown guarantees perfect water resistance. I have jet-skied, visited water parks, and snorkeled, and I have never encountered any problems. The bracelet is also sturdy. After 4 years of intensive use, it still holds its clip well. Its brushed finish helps to hide the marks of time. Although it is not easy to adjust, with a little patience, it can be done quite well. I love this watch, but I find that there is something missing on the dial, between the 6 and the center. A little “RS” or “Automatik” inscription would better balance the whole thing. A great watch for everyday use that will never let you down, but a little too sober, too German for the weekend. Perfect as a tool watch.

I have been wearing it for a few weeks, I did not want the metal bracelet but rather the rubber which fits the case just as well. This watch is perfect, even for a 16cm wrist, with its 38.5 cm diameter it is large with its dial opening. Its readability is exceptional in all conditions.
