Owner of this 5711 for over 10 years... I've been a simple watch enthusiast for quite some time now, and back then we could buy this kind of watch without any difficulty. When I see now that this is no longer possible... I wonder how it will last. I have the opportunity to visit my friends at the European Watch Company on Newbury Street, and I'm amazed by the actual sale prices for second-hand! I'm glad I bought a new one for $20,000 before all the hype disturbed the established order. This watch is the most beautiful in my collection, not always easy to wear as it scratches quickly and is sometimes a little too flashy! Otherwise, what a treat in terms of sleek lines, like a 911... A very simple design that has become iconic in modern watchmaking. Many ask me if this is Patek's iconic watch? For the public, the answer is probably yes, but for watch enthusiasts, clearly no! In any case, not for me... I'd be tempted by a 5960 Patek Philippe Annual Calendar 5960P Chronograph Platinum Grey Dial, on sale at European Watch Company. For me, it's the Patek style with its 3 counters, very characteristic of complications models of the brand. Finally, thanks to the It's About Time newsletter, which introduced me to this platform... Discreet luxury. A distinctive and singular design like that of the Ellipse, launched in 1968 with the reference 3548. When it was presented at Baselword 2021 I was captivated by the rejuvenation work of the legendary Calatrava. Apart from a few rare models, I found their watches too classic, too "old-fashioned". This new Calatrava Clous de Paris is a turning point that clearly aims to attract a new, younger clientele... of which I am one :). It is exceptional on the wrist and the white gold gives it a presence that is both discreet and "dazzling"
